Routes and Maps
The KVC has signed up with "Ride with GPS" to manage and distribute the club maps and routes. The KVC Club Page has been setup and populated with over 75 KVC routes, with more being added on a weekly basis. If you are a member of the KVC, you should have received an email invitation to join the KVC Club Page. The KVC maps and routes will only be available through the "Ride with GPS" service. To access this information, you must click on the link in the invitation email to create your account on "Ride with GPS".
The following is a sample of the KVC maps available on Ride with GPS. This particular ride is Route 1 of the Wednesday Mid-week Stretch. You can click on the "View full route" link in the map below to get full access to this one sample route. You must be a member of the KVC in order to access the other club rides on "Ride with GPS".
There are videos and help pages available on the site related to the functions and features available with the Ride with GPS service. Here are a few of the initial videos and help pages you may want to view to get you started:
- Club member benefits and Mobile
- Exporting Routes to GPS
- Export types
- Mobile voice navigation using the Ride with GPS smart phone app
- Create and customize a PDF cue-sheet and map - see info below as well.
If you need help with other features and functions, you can go to the Main Help Page and select from the list of help topics or search for help on a particular topic.
The Print Map and Cue PDF is the best format for printing out the map with a cue sheet. A PDF file will be generated and sent to you by email. A nicely formatted map and cue sheet is produced when you select "Portrait" orientation for the map and cue sheet, Rows and Columns 1 x 1, and Font size of 13. You can play around with the settings until you get a format that best suits your needs.
One topic that doesn't seem to be covered is the use of Filters from the Route Library list at the bottom of the KVC page. Click on the Filters+ to expand the filters list. You can sort the list by clicking on any of the column headings (each click with change the order from ascending to descending). You can filter the list by Tag, Name, Location, Distance or Elevation. For the distance and elevation filters, simply drag the slider bars on each end to set the minimum or maximum values for the filter. Let's say you would like to ride a moderate route with a minimum distance of 50 kms staring from Kingston. The following screen shows the filtering parameters to create this list, sorted in descending order by Distance. You can pin rides to your own home page by clicking on the pin icon at the right of the list.
